District 19 state lawmakers jointly file for re-election as slate

Three state delegates and a state senator from Montgomery County filed on Wednesday for re-election in the 19th District.

Vaughn Stewart, Bonnie Cullison and Charlotte Crutchfield are running for another term as state delegates, while Ben Kramer is running for another four years in the state Senate.

The four lawmakers are running as a slate, which means they are fundraising as a group.

Stewart and Crutchfield were elected in 2018. Cullison was elected to the House in 2010.

Kramer served three terms in the House, starting in 2007, before taking a seat in the Senate in 2019.

District 19 includes parts of Gaithersburg and Rockville and extends south to include part of Wheaton.

The District 19 incumbents said they have endorsements from Senate President Bill Ferguson, House Speaker Adrienne Jones and U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin.

Brooks first to file for county public matching funds

Brandy Brooks, running for a County Council at-large seat, is the first to request matching funds from the county’s Public Election Fund after filing over $113,000 in campaign contributions, her campaign said.

Brooks ran for County Council in 2018, and also used the county’s public campaign financing system then.

Her campaign said in a news release that 610 donors had given to Brooks’ campaign as of a July 6 filing. The average contribution was about $70.

County Council at-large candidates can receive a maximum of $250,000 from the Public Election Fund. The maximum donation candidates can receive from individuals is $250.

There are four-at large council seats up for election in 2022.

Brooks and three other Democratic challengers — Kim Kellerman, Laurie-Anne Sayles and Christa Tichy — have filed to run for those seats. Kristin Mink, who also is running for an at-large seat, has not filed yet.

Current At-Large Council Members Gabe Albornoz, Evan Glass and Will Jawando — also all Democrats — have all said they’re running for re-election.

The fourth current at-large council member, Hans Riemer, is term limited and running for county executive instead.

The primary election is scheduled for June 28, 2022, and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 8, 2022.

The filing deadline is February 22, 2022.

Parrott first to report latest campaign contribution cycle

State Del. Neil Parrott, a Republican running for the 6th Congressional District seat next year, is the first candidate in that race to report campaign contributions for the most recent cycle.

Parrott, who has represented Washington County since 2011, raised nearly $53,700 from April 1 through June 30, and currently has about $159,500 cash on hand.

The incumbent, U.S. Rep David Trone, a Democrat from Potomac, has not filed a report yet for the most recent cycle. As of March 31, his campaign had a little less than $36,000 cash on hand.

Other potential candidates who have created fundraising campaigns for the race are Democrat Aruna Miller, a former state delegate who represented western Montgomery County; Republican Jonathan Jenkins, a software engineer for government agencies and Fortune 500 companies who lives in Rockville; and Republican Robert Poissonnier, a retired law enforcement officer who lives in Cumberland.

The deadline for the candidates to file their latest federal campaign fundraising reports is July 15.
