Montgomery County reported 41 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning, bringing its total during the pandemic to 70,394.
The number of new daily cases has been steadily decreasing since January. The lowest daily case increase this year was 14 cases on May 6.
One additional confirmed death from the virus was reported in the county. The county’s death toll is now at 1,487.
There have been 46 “probable” deaths. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause of death on certificates but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.
As of Wednesday, there are 595,105 residents — or 56.6% of the county’s population — who have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. There are 462,236 residents — or 44% of the population — who have received a second dose or a one-dose vaccine.
Across Maryland, the number of cases increased by 474, for a new total of 454,745 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
There have been 8,704 people who have died from the virus in the state, and 730 people are currently hospitalized.
