Montgomery County reports 55 new COVID-19 cases, continuing downward trend

Three additional confirmed deaths from virus recorded

Montgomery County reported 55 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday morning, part of a trend of lower numbers in the last several weeks.

Since April 22, the county has had fewer than 100 new cases every day except one.

As of mid-April, the county often had more than 100 cases per day, and usually didn’t drop below 90.

But the daily number has not been higher than 70 since April 30 and has dropped as low as 14.

The county’s total number of COVID-19 cases during the pandemic is now 70,353.



Three additional confirmed coronavirus-related deaths were reported overnight. The county’s death toll is now at 1,486.

There also have been 46 “probable” deaths. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause of death on certificates but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.

As of Tuesday, 592,970 county residents — or 56.4% of the county’s population — have received a first vaccine dose. There are 454,839 residents — or 43.3% of the population — who have received a second dose or a one-dose vaccine.

There have been 8,687 people who have died from the virus in the state. There are 770 people who are hospitalized.
