Nursing homes, group homes and congregate facilities account for about 7% of Montgomery County’s total number of COVID-19 cases during the pandemic.

Of the 4,009 cases in those facilities, 2,156 have been among residents and 1,853 have been among staff members.

Of the 515 deaths in the facilities, 510 were among residents and five were among staff members.

On Wednesday morning, the Maryland Department of Health reported 147 new cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County. It marks the third straight day that the county has recorded fewer than 200 daily cases.

The county’s case increase of 0.3% brings its total number of cases to 59,439.

There have been 44 “probable” deaths from the virus. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause of death on certificates but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.

Seven additional confirmed deaths were reported in the county in a 24-hour period. The county’s death toll now sits at 1,276.

Across Maryland, the number of cases increased on Wednesday morning by 942 — or 0.3% — for a total of 357,483 cases during the pandemic.

There have been 7,043 people who have died from the virus in the state. More than 1,400 people are currently hospitalized with the virus.
