A hit-and-run driver killed a 66-year-old pedestrian Friday night in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.
Police posted on Twitter that they got a call at 8:16 p.m. for a fatal hit-and-run crash near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Elton Road. In a second tweet, police wrote that the victim was a pedestrian.
In a press release on Saturday afternoon, police identified the victim as 66-year-old Mark C. Henderson of Takoma Park.
Police wrote on Saturday that they had been unable to locate any of Henderson’s family members to notify them of his death. But police updated the statement on Sunday to say they had been in touch with his family.

Earlier on Saturday, police wrote that the vehicle that hit Henderson was a 2007 or 2008 silver Nissan Altima or Nissan Sentra. The vehicle is expected to have damage to the front bumper, on the left side. The driver has not been identified.
Friday’s crash is Montgomery County’s first pedestrian fatality of 2021.
Last year, there were 15 fatal pedestrian crashes in the county. That does not include a fatality in which a woman was struck on Interstate 270. The woman’s SUV hit debris, causing her to stop and get out of the vehicle. She was then hit by another vehicle.
