Renowned chef Jose Andres is transforming Jaleo in Bethesda Row into a new concept called Spanish Diner that will serve “comfort food.” Bethesda Beat learned of the new concept Wednesday and Andres’ PR staff issued a press release in response to questions about the change.
Spanish Diner is scheduled to open next spring, according to the release.
Andres, a Bethesda resident, temporarily closed Jaleo in March at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time he turned his restaurants, including Jaleo, into “community kitchens” where volunteers provided to-go lunches to people in need.
Andres first opened a Spanish Diner in New York City, and the Bethesda location will feature similar items to that location, including Pica Pica and certain Spanish cocktails, beer and wine, the press release stated.
Spanish Diner will specialize in dishes such as Huevos Rotos Casa Lucio, which are eggs fried in olive oil served on top of crispy potatoes, according to the press release. The restaurant will also serve Catalan beef stew and Iberico pork meatballs, according to the release.
Spanish Diner will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
