Silver Spring-area ZIP codes continue to have the most COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County — 42% of the county’s total, as of Friday morning.

There are 9,737 cases in Silver Spring-area ZIP codes.

On Friday morning, the Maryland Department of Health reported 110 new known cases in Montgomery County, bringing the total number the county has had to 23,403.

The increase was 0.5% from Thursday morning.

Six Silver Spring ZIP codes are among the county areas with the most cases, including the top three: 20906 (2,539 cases), 20902 (1,940 cases) and 20904 (1,796 cases).

For the ZIP code with the most cases — 20906 in Silver Spring — approximately 3.6% of the estimated population of more than 70,100 has had COVID-19.

The ZIP code with the highest percentage of its population having had cases is 20903 in Silver Spring — roughly 5% of its estimated population of more than 26,200.

On Friday morning, the state reported two additional confirmed deaths from the virus in the county. The county’s death toll is now 814.

There have been 40 “probable” deaths from the virus. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause of death on certificates but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.

Across the state, cases increased by 734 — or 0.6% — overnight. The state has now had 130,159 known cases.

In Maryland, 3,845 people have been confirmed to have died from the virus.
