A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night after being hit by a vehicle in Montgomery Village, police said.

Police identified the pedestrian as Adonias Gomez, 62, of Girard Street in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County police said in a press release that Joergen Jacala Noveras, 44, of Creeper Lane in Gaithersburg, was driving a 2014 Acura MDX that hit Gomez.

Gomez was trying to cross Midcounty Highway at Pier Point Place. Police are trying to figure out the circumstances of what led to Noveras’ Acura hitting Gomez shortly before 7:05 p.m..

Gomez was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Noveras and a woman in his car were not injured, police said.

The area where the crash happened is near Cider Mill Apartments. Some eastbound lanes of Midcounty Highway were closed for the investigation.
