A Gaithersburg man was struck and killed while trying to cross Rockville Pike Wednesday night, Montgomery County police said.
Police identified the victim as Michael Louis Gamboa, 40, in a press release early Thursday morning.
The crash was one of five involving a pedestrian or bicyclist reported in Montgomery County on Wednesday and the only one that was fatal, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.
Police said Gamboa was crossing Rockville Pike around 8:41 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound 2011 Nissan Sentra driven by Adam Moche Aseraph, 28, of Rockville.
Gamboa was taken to the hospital and later died of his injuries.
Aseraph was not injured and stayed at the scene after the crash, police said.
The area of Rockville where the crash happened is near a shopping center with a TGI Fridays.
Wednesday night’s crash marks the second pedestrian fatality of 2020 in Montgomery County. On Jan. 6, Jose Renan Guillen, 75, of Olney, was fatally struck while trying to cross Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill.
