Sugarloaf Crafts Festival — Gaithersburg — Friday, Saturday and Sunday

The Sugarloaf Crafts Festival will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The festival will feature more than 400 artists and craft designers from across the country. There will also be demonstrations, children’s theater and food samples.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 at the door or $8 online for adults. Children 12 and under can enter for free. Visit for more information.

Peace activist lecture — Chevy Chase — Saturday

Izzeldin Abuelaish, a five-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Harvard-trained Palestinian doctor, will speak at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase. Abuelaish was raised in Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp. In 2009, three of his daughters died in an Israeli tank strike.

The free event starts at 7 p.m.


Holiday tree lighting — Clarksburg — Saturday

Clarksburg Premium Outlets is holding a tree lighting festival Saturday. Starting at noon, there will be activities throughout the day that include musical performances, a holiday card photo booth and the chance to win a $500 shopping spree. The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre and Academy will perform dances from “The Nutcracker” when the tree is lit.

The free event runs from noon to 7:30 p.m.


Silent film with live orchestra — North Bethesda — Saturday

National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale present Voices of Light. The performance combines the silent film “The Passion of Joan of Arc” with music from composer Richard Einhorn. The performance is at The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda.

A question-and-answer session precedes the show at 6:45 p.m. The performance begins at 8 p.m.
