Wisconsin-based bath and kitchen manufacturer Kohler plans to open one of its “signature stores” in downtown Bethesda in April, the company confirmed in an email Friday.

Kohler Signature Stores are showrooms where customers can order products for delivery and speak with consultants. Kohler has more than 30 signature stores across North America, spokeswoman Annie Shafer wrote in an email.

Kohler’s Bethesda store will be at 7626 Old Georgetown Road, at the intersection with Woodmont Avenue, which formerly housed Freshbikes until 2018. It will be the company’s second showroom in Maryland. The other is in Baltimore.

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services issued a permit Nov. 15 to Wisconsin-based contractor MSI General. A copy of the permit is on the door of the building.

Stu LaRose, a project manager with the company, said Thursday that the contractor is working with Kohler to finish the store.

Shafer wrote Friday that the design phase is complete and construction has started. Kohler is hiring five sales consultants for the store, she wrote.

Freshbikes closed all of its stores in the Greater Washington, D.C. area in early 2018, ARLnow reported, after 11 years to do “circumstances outside of its control.” The closures included the Bethesda store.
