A Bethesda woman was charged with kidnapping Monday after police say she assaulted a man and took his granddaughter into a store on Woodmont Avenue.
Yashica Shavon Terry, 39, of the 7000 block of Woodmont Avenue, was arrested Monday, according to the county’s arrest database.
Second District Commander Sean Gagen said a 4-year-old girl was with her grandfather near the intersection of Woodmont and Norfolk avenue in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle.
“[Terry] approached from behind and violently shoved the older man from behind. He didn’t know this attack was coming, so he went face first into the concrete,” Gagen said.
He said Terry then grabbed the girl and went into a nearby store. Multiple witnesses saw the incident and police arrived within a couple minutes and arrested Terry, Gagen said.
Terry is charged with kidnapping, kidnapping a child under 16, abducting a child under 12, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and reckless.
She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 13. Attorney information was not listed Tuesday morning.
