Gregorio’s Trattoria, a sit-down Italian restaurant in Potomac and Reston, Va., will open a second Montgomery County location in the spring, its owner says.

Owner Gregory Kahn said in an interview Monday that the new restaurant will be in the Shops at Sumner Place strip mall, off Sangamore Road near the Brookmont neighborhood of Bethesda. Kahn said he hopes to have the new restaurant open in April.

“I love the area for a lot of reasons. It’s a neighborhood center. We’re a neighborhood place,” he said.

Kahn said he has been in the restaurant industry in the greater Washington, D.C., area for nearly 20 years, and opened his first Gregorio’s in Reston 11 years ago. Six years ago, he opened a second location in Potomac’s Cabin John Village shopping center.

Gregorio’s serves traditional Italian dishes such as lasagna, eggplant parmesan, beef and poultry items, and specialty pizzas. Most entrees are between $15 and $25, with appetizers priced between $8 and $12. Each restaurant has a bar.

Kahn said he wasn’t looking to expand to a third restaurant, but a friend who works in commercial real estate told him of a vacant space in Sumner Place. The shopping center’s landlord, he said, was also excited about the possibility of a Gregorio’s there.

Kahn said a Chinese restaurant previously occupied the space at Sumner Place for 23 years. It needs substantial renovations over the next few months before he can move in.

“Every last pipe. Everything is being replaced. It’s a pretty intensive construction process,” he said.

Kahn said he will hire cooks and front-of-house staff in the coming months.
