A new 338-unit luxury apartment building will open in Silver Spring on Wednesday.

The grand opening of the Solaire 8250 Georgia Avenue will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and feature tours of the 20-story building. Floor plans range from studio to two-bedroom apartments. The average apartment size is approximately 760 square feet.

Developed by Washington Property Co., Solaire 8250 is two blocks from the Silver Spring Metro stop.

Solaire 8250 Georgia Avenue and Solaire-Metro, which opened in 2012, are both in Silver Spring’s Ripley District. The county and WPC have worked together to bring housing, dining and shopping to the area, once dominated by light-industrial uses.

WPC bought the former church site at 8250 Georgia Ave. from Bethel World Outreach Ministries International in 2013 in an $8.2 million deal.

The 470,000-square-foot apartment building will have 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, in addition to housing. The $100 million structure will also have three floors of underground parking.

The Montgomery County Planning Board gave final approval to the project in 2017.

The four Solaire complexes — two in Silver Spring, one in Bethesda and one in Wheaton — will have a combined total of 1,000 units, according to a news release. A fifth Solaire building, set to break ground next year, will bring the total to about 1,400 units.

About 60% of the units in the Solaire 8250 are leased, the news release said.
