Police search for Idaho man last seen in Montgomery County
Montgomery County police are searching for an Idaho man last seen at a family member’s house on Wednesday.
Chase Rogers, 25, of St. Pocatello, Idaho, was with his 5-month-old son, Lucious. Rogers left Idaho on Aug. 1 without telling the mother of his son.
Police describe Rogers as a white man roughly 5’10” and 190 pounds with hazel eyes and blond hair. He may be driving a purple 2008 Saturn Outlook with Idaho license plates. [NBC Washington]
Monday-morning fire burns Potomac garage
An early-morning fire on Lake Potomac Drive near Potomac damaged a garage that had been converted into a living space.
Firefighters responded to the fire around 5:30 a.m. on Monday. No injuries were reported. [Fox 5]
Montgomery County financing law a model for Maryland
Montgomery County’s recent campaign financing law for local elections effectively reduced the influence of large donors on county campaigns, a new report showed.
The study, released by the Maryland Public Interest Research Group, reported that candidates who participated in public financing during the 2018 election attracted a greater number of donors than candidates who did not follow the contribution limits of the public financing program. Public financing candidates also relied on a greater number of smaller donors to fund their campaigns.
Of the 57 2018 candidates in Montgomery County, 35 signed up to participate in the program and 24 qualified for matching funds by reaching a threshold of individual donor contributions. The program required candidates to only accept individual donations between $5 and $150 and refuse contributions from corporations, political action committees, other candidates, and political parties.
