Labor Day art show – Saturday, Sunday and Monday – Glen Echo Park
The Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture is sponsoring its 49th annual Labor Day Art Show, which is one of the largest in the region. More than 200 artists and 700 works will be featured. Among the art on display will be sculpture, painting and drawing, ceramics, glass, textiles and photography.
The show will run from noon to 6 p.m. each day in the Historic Spanish Ballroom. It is free and open to the public.
Ethiopian festival – Sunday – Silver Spring
The Ethiopian Festival, which celebrates Ethiopian cultural heritage, will be held Sunday in downtown Silver Spring. The festival will feature musical performances, a fashion show, comedy and vendors displaying their work. There will also be free activities for children.
The festival runs from 1 to 9 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, a few blocks from the Silver Spring Metro Station. County Executive Marc Elrich will read a proclamation at 7 p.m. declaring Sept. 1 as “Ethiopian Day.” Free parking is available at county garages.
Labor Day parade – Monday – Kensington
The town of Kensington will hold its Labor Day Parade and Festival on Monday, with floats, dance groups, marching bands and other groups. The parade starts at St. Paul Park and ends at Noyes Library for Young Children.
There will also be food vendors and activities along Armory Ave and beer and wine on sale, courtesy of Olney Winery, Knowles Station Wine & Co and 7 Locks Brewing.
The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Events will proceed rain or shine.
Interfaith 5K—Monday – Boyds
Shaare Torah Jewish Community, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Islamic Society of the Washington Area are partnering to hold the MoCo Interfaith 5K at the Maryland Soccerplex Dairy Mooseum in Boyds. Register online in advance for $35 or for $40 in person (cash or check only) on the day of the race.
The event aims to bring county residents from different faiths together. Proceeds benefit the interfaith organizations Colesville Council of Community Conversations and Gaithersburg HELP.
Events begin at 7 a.m. Participants are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food and diapers. Visit https://mocointerfaith5k.org/ for more information.
