“Streetsense is poised for great success and I am excited for the opportunity to play a role in the growth of a forward-looking organization with such a strong team of creative and talented professionals,” Haglund said in a statement.

Streetsense was founded in 2001 and specializes in retail, restaurant and hospitality design. The company has offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Madrid in addition to its Bethesda home.

“As we continue to expand and work with clients across the world, operations and seamless execution are critical to our continued success,” Streetsense CEO Brian Taff said in a statement. “Kurt has both the strategic and tactical experience and thinking necessary to further our goal to evolve the Streetsense brand and its positive impact on the communities in which we work.”

The Elkridge-based company has installed solar panel systems along the East Coast since 2009, and averages 130 to 140 installations a month. Co-op members chose Solar Energy World over one other firm, which it declined to name in its announcement.

The company will be tasked with installing solar panels for 156 co-op members. It will also serve the Howard County co-op.

“We know how thoroughly the board reviewed each proposal, so we are honored and excited to help more people go solar in Montgomery and Howard counties by providing them quality solar installation at a fair price,” Solar Energy World Vice President of Sales Bryan Hacker said in a statement.

Residents can sign up for the county’s solar co-op until Sept. 6. Sign up is free and joining the group is not a commitment to purchase a solar panel system. The co-op allows participants to purchase solar panels for a cheaper group rate.

The city of Gaithersburg awarded $40,039 in grant money to 14 neighborhood and homeowner associations last week.

The awards are part of the city’s Frederick J. Felton Neighborhood Matching Grant Program, which gives out matching grants of up to $5,000 to communities raising funds to improve themselves.

Diamond Farms, Newport Estates III and Shady Grove Village III each received the maximum $5,000 awards. Shady Grove Village CC earned $4,750 for various projects and Villa Ridge Condominium received $4,265 for a lighting project.

Communities are required to match the grants dollar-for-dollar. Any group that represents a majority of residents in a neighborhood is eligible for the program.
