Summer camp students raise money for cancer research
Summer camp students at Bethesda Country Day School in Bethesda recently collected nearly $250 to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a childhood cancer foundation dedicated to raising funds for research to help cure childhood cancer.
Throughout July, the campers sold a variety of items, including lemonade and baked goods, as well as handmade bracelets, keychains and magnets, to raise money for the organization.
Montgomery Blair student recognized for volunteer efforts
Montgomery Blair High School student Shreeya Khurana was recognized this week for “significant community service” in Maryland.
Khurana is one of 13 people and groups recognized by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford. The ceremony was held Wednesday at the State House in Annapolis.
More than 100 people and organizations applied for the recognition, according to the governor’s office.
Back to School Fair on Saturday
The Montgomery County Public Schools Back to School Fair is scheduled for Saturday at Westfield Wheaton mall.
The fair provides health screenings for children, free immunizations for students in middle and high school, information about curriculum and family-friendly activities.
The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mall on Veirs Mill Road.
Free shuttle bus services begin at 9:30 a.m. from Paint Branch, John F. Kennedy, Northwest, Albert Einstein, Watkins Mill and Montgomery Blair high schools and Carver Educational Services Center.
