Chevy Chase financial adviser appealing fraud conviction
Dawn J. Bennett, of Chevy Chase, was convicted by a federal jury in October of 17 fraud charges and will appeal her 20-year prison sentence. Bennett defrauded 46 investors out of $20 million and used some of the funds to arrange for priests in India to perform religious ceremonies to ward off federal investigators, prosecutors said. Major water utility will not spend on rebranding signs
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission has declined a $350,00 price tag to build new signs with “water” in its name, having already spent $501,000 on a variety of other related changes. The water utility, which serves Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, faced backlash from critics arguing that a public utility with a monopoly shouldn’t allocate funds for marketing. Gaithersburg grocery store sells $775K lottery ticket
The Maryland Lottery said a $775,000 Multi-Match ticket in Monday’s drawing was sold at the Giant grocery store at 842 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg. The winner, who had not immediately claimed the prize, can choose either a $775,000 annuity or a $450,000 cash option, before taxes. [Maryland Lottery]
