County police detectives have found the mother of a newborn baby left in a wooded area of Silver Spring, two days after the child was abandoned.

The county’s Emergency Communications Center received a call at around 5 p.m. Friday reporting a naked baby left alone about 10 feet from a sidewalk near the 10000 block of Tenbrook Drive.

First responders took the infant girl to a local hospital for treatment. She remains in stable condition, police said Monday.

Detectives located the mother on Sunday. She also received treatment at a hospital.

The child is currently in the custody of Montgomery County Child Welfare Services. Medical personnel said she was born just a few hours before she was found in the woods.

County police did not have an update on the investigation into the incident on Monday morning regarding potential witnesses or information about the mother.

County police reminded the community of Maryland’s Safe Have Law on Friday, which allows unwilling parents to leave newborns at hospitals or law enforcement facilities within 10 days of birth without civil liability or criminal prosecution.
