A recent Paint Branch High School graduate was shot and killed on Saturday in the backyard of his Fairland residence, county police said.

County police officers responded to the 14100 block of Angelton Terrace around 3:43 a.m. Aug. 17 for the report of a shooting. Officers found Damion Callery Jr., 18, dead in the home.

Detectives determined Calley encountered an armed person or persons in his backyard and was shot, police said. As of Monday morning, they were still trying to find the shooter.

The Washington Post reported Callery was supposed to start school soon at Bowie State University.
