Bethesda real estate group announces sale; it is closing, publication reports

Bethesda-based commercial real estate group The Ezra Company announced Monday that it has been sold.

The Washington Business Journal reported last week that The Ezra Company is closing after nearly 40 years in the area. Chief Operating Officer Mark Ezra would not comment on that report.

Fred Ezra, Mark Ezra’s father, founded the company in 1980 and decided to retire after 50 years in the industry. Ezra said in a news release that the company “completed an asset sale to a major national brokerage firm,” but declined to name the buyer.

The Washington Business Journal said Fred Ezra confirmed in an interview the decision to shut down after exploring other alternatives.

The Washington Business Journal reported that the company began winding down about three months ago, giving the firm’s roughly 50 employees time to figure out their future.

Mark Ezra moved to commercial real estate data firm CoStar Group Inc.

In an email, he added that The Ezra Company can’t discuss details of the transaction because of confidentiality requirements.

The news release called it “an End of an Era.”

In the release, Fred Ezra thanked all of the tenants, landlords, architects, developers and property managers involved in the company.

“I have been blessed to work alongside my dad and the rest of The Ezra Company family for so many years,” Mark Ezra said in a statement. “My father created such a special company that has touched so many peoples’ lives.”

Rockville pharmaceutical company to sell blood cancer treatment

Evomela has received approval to hit the market in China. The injection treatment is intended for multiple myeloma patients unable to use oral therapy.

“We look forward to launching the first product from our hematology oncology pipeline, Evomela, this quarter and fully transitioning into a commercial organization,” CASI Chairman and CEO Wei-Wu He said in a statement. “We are enthusiastic about our growth and momentum.”

CASI focuses on developing therapeutics and pharmaceutical products at the international level, though the company has taken almost three decades to bring a treatment to market. The company has a subsidiary in Beijing in addition to its Rockville office.

Washington Business Journal first reported the product update.
