A driver involved in a fatal crash with a Rockville motorcyclist in Woodbridge, Va., on Sunday was charged with driving while intoxicated, authorities said, but details of what happened were still not clear on Monday.
John Lee, 46, was killed early in the morning when his motorcycle struck a tree along Dale Boulevard.
Prince William County police responded to the 4100 block of Dale Boulevard at 2:17 a.m. Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Monday that Katrina Nicole Thomas, 26, of Fredericksburg, Va., was charged with driving while intoxicated, but they did not know if her 2018 Toyota sedan hit Lee’s motorcycle.
Lee was riding a 2018 Ducati motorcycle. He and Thomas were both traveling west when they crossed the center median and struck two separate trees, police said.
Detectives do not know any other circumstances of the two crashes, police said.
Thomas was taken to a local hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Thomas pleaded guilty to reckless driving in May 2019 for a separate incident in Virginia resulting in a $200 fine, according to online court records.
A court date for Thomas is pending, police said. Attorney information was not available in online records as of Monday afternoon.
