An instructor at the Renaissance Art Center charged with sexually abusing two young boys will remain jailed after his preliminary court hearing was waived Friday morning.
Gene Alphonse Brugada Pasay, 30, of Silver Spring, was arrested on July 15 for allegedly making sexual gestures and showing two boys inappropriate videos and photographs, police said.
Pasay’s case will be revisited Sept. 6 and a trial date may be determined. He is being represented by defense attorney David Felsen.
Felsen declined to comment on the case.
Renaissance Art Center in Gaithersburg offers art classes for young people.
Pasay appeared in the courtroom through video link from a county detention center, only speaking to answer in the affirmative when asked by Felsen if he could hear the proceedings and understood them.
Preliminary hearings are often when attorney representation is determined for defendants, who may waive the proceedings and move on to motion and pretrial hearings.
County police investigated Pasay for more than a month before arresting him. Detectives determined the alleged incidents occurred between September 2018 and March 2019, police said.
Police believe there may be additional victims and asked anyone with information to contact the Special Victims Investigations Division.
Pasay was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and was being held without bond.
