A Gaithersburg woman was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly trying to drown her adult daughter at the lake at Rio, police said.
At approximately 2:20 a.m., a Gaithersburg police officer was on patrol around the lake when she heard “what sounded like gurgling and splashing in the water,” according to a news release from the department.
The officer, Mary Liddi, saw two women in the water. She requested backup, removed her police equipment and jumped in the water. She helped the two women stay afloat until additional officers arrived and helped pull the women to shore.
Through their investigation, Gaithersburg police determined one of the women, identified as Karen Louisa Isaac, was “distraught” and had allegedly attempted to kill herself and her 25-year-old daughter “who suffers from severe medical issues,” according to the news release.
The daughter, whose identity was not released, was in stable condition at a local hospital.
Isaac, 62, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and reckless endangerment, according to online court records. Attorney information was not available Thursday morning.
