One person died and three others were injured in a Capital Beltway crash early Tuesday morning, the first of several incidents amid rainy conditions across the county.

A driver lost control of a vehicle and hit a wall on the outer loop of the Beltway near New Hampshire Avenue at around 4 a.m., a Maryland State Police spokesman said. The front passenger was killed in the crash.

The driver and two rear passengers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

State police could not provide identities of the victims as of Tuesday morning.

The incident closed multiple lanes on the outer loop, which were reopened by 6:30 a.m., state police reported on Twitter.

A pair of tractor-trailer crashes closed multiple lanes of Interstate 270 around the same time as the fatal Beltway crash, county fire and rescue services Pete Piringer reported on Twitter.

A crash southbound on Interstate 270 near Md. 27 involved a tractor-trailer flipping over an embankment at around 4:15 a.m., Piringer reported. The incident included two other vehicles. The tractor-trailer ended up about 200 feet from the road near a creek.

Roughly 15 minutes later, a tractor-trailer carrying tomatoes heading the opposite direction on I-270 before Md. 129 was involved in a crash, Piringer reported.

No serious injuries were reported in either incident.

There were long backups along stretches of northbound and southbound I-270 Tuesday morning.

Between 8:20 and 9:40 a.m., at least eight crashes occurred in the county, Piringer reported.

Fire and rescue personnel evaluated several people for injuries after a crash near Rock Creek Forest Elementary School in Chevy Chase, Piringer reported. One vehicle hit a tree on Seneca Meadows Parkway in Gaithersburg, and another hit a light pole on Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.

Three cars were involved in a crash at Connecticut Avenue and Woodbine Street in Chevy Chase.
