Wednesday afternoon storms leave damage

A line of brief but strong thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon caused some trees and power lines to fall, according to weather officials.

One tree fell across a MARC train rail between Metropolitan Grove and Germantown stations, causing a two-hour delay. [WTOP]

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan condemned President Donald Trump’s recent Twitter thread calling on four women of color in the U.S. House of Representatives to “go back” to the “places from which they came.”

“I thought the comments were terrible and very unbecoming of a president,” Hogan said. [Washington Post]

More states pass laws mandating Holocaust education, but Maryland holds back

Oregon recently became the 12th state to mandate Holocaust education in its schools — a list that doesn’t include Maryland, despite a Montgomery County lawmaker’s efforts to change that during the most recent General Assembly session.
