D.C. Attorney General Sues Marriott over alleged deceptive pricing
D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine has filed a lawsuit against the Bethesda-based company regarding its resort fees at hotels around the world. The fees cover amenities such as Wi-Fi, and are usually mandatory. The suit states Marriott doesn’t disclose these costs as part of its room rates. [Washington Business Journal]
Crews repairing Potomac road after flooding destruction
A portion of Belfast Road was completely destroyed by Monday’s flash floods, including significant damage to a water main. Crews temporarily fixed the cavernous hole in the road so homeowners could enter and exit the area, and a shuttle will be available later in the week when construction closes down the area. [ABC7]
County delegate spearheads pension system disclosure law
Del. Kumar Barve sponsored the legislation requiring the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System to share information about fees paid to Wall Street investment firms. The law took effect this month, and is intended to illustrate excessive fees paid by the state, which haven’t been previously disclosed. “You, me and every member of the public can invest and get better returns while being charged lower fees than the state of Maryland,” Barve said.
