Marc Elrich thinks Maryland should go into the marijuana business
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said he thinks Maryland could benefit financially from legalizing and selling recreational marijuana. Unlike the profit model in Colorado, which collects only drug and sale taxes, Elrich said the state’s farmers should be able to grow, process and sell the drug while “taking every dime of revenue.” [Maryland Matters]
State withholds $55.6 million from Metro over auditing concerns
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R) administration announced Monday that they were withholding $55.6 million from Metro due to concerns over a lack of transparency from past audits. Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn, who will soon become a member of the transit agency’s board, said Metro “has failed to demonstrate how past allocations were spent and how additional funds will be spent in the future.” [Washington Post]
One injured in Beltway crash Monday
One person was reported injured Monday when a car overturned on the Beltway on the inner loop between River Road and the Interstate 270 split in Bethesda around 5 p.m., slowing traffic. The person trapped inside the car was removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital. Their condition is not yet known. [WTOP]
