Week Ahead: July Fourth Fireworks Displays Set To Light Up the Skies

Parades planned in Town of Chevy Chase, Takoma Park

County Department of Recreation to host two fireworks displays Thursday

Montgomery County’s Department of Recreation will commemorate Independence Day Thursday with fireworks displays in Germantown and Kensington. “Mid-County Sparkles” will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, beginning with a Motown and rock and roll cover band. Starting at 6 p.m., free parking and shuttles will be provided at Westfield Wheaton mall, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road. On-site parking at the school will be available only for individuals with disabilities. ”

Germantown Glory will be held at South Germantown Recreational Park, located at 18041 Central Park Circle in Germantown, and will feature a soul, rhythm and blues rock band, with festivities beginning at 7 p.m. On-site parking is available.

Rockville to hold fireworks in King Farm

The City of Rockville will commemorate Independence Day Thursday in Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in the King Farm community, located at 1800 Piccard Drive. The celebration will begin at 7 p.m. with live music, which will be followed with greetings from the mayor and council and fireworks beginning at 9:15 p.m. Free parking will be available in lots along Shady Grove Road, Gaither Road and Piccard Drive.

Takoma Park holding 130th annual Independence Day celebration

The City of Takoma Park will host its 130th annual Independence Day celebration with a parade down Maple and Carroll Avenues beginning at 10 a.m. Participants will include elected officials, police officers and fire fighters and other members of the community. There will also be an evening program at 7 p.m. in front of the Takoma Park Community Center, located at 7500 Maple Ave, which will include live music, food truck, children’s activities and more. There will be no fireworks this year due to construction at Takoma Park Middle School.

The Town of Chevy Chase will host Independence Day festivities Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center,  4301 Willow Lane, where residents can decorate bikes, scooters, wagons and baby carriages. A parade will begin at noon, and from 12:30 to 1:30, there will be a picnic catered by the barbecue chain Red Hot & Blue with vegetarian and vegan options available upon request.
