Urban Butcher reopens fulltime with new menu, updated interior

The Silver Spring steak house returned to operating six days a week in mid-June, after renovations that involved adorning the restaurant with bold urban art.

The red-and-black color scheme provides a “truly authentic space,” owner Raynold Mendizábal said in a statement.

The Urban Butcher menu now includes items such as colossal whole prawns served with crustacean mayonnaise, charred globe artichokes with picatta butter, and cucumbers and strawberries with horseradish, Mendizábal said.

The restaurant has also completed its Ossabaw Ham Project, a four-year venture that involved curing legs from the Ossabaw Island hog. The hams are seasoned then smoked for three winters, and will now be sliced tableside for customers. A two-ounce serving of the meat is $16.

“I promise we will keep on sourcing meticulously, pushing flavors to the bold, and showing you a great time,”

The restaurant is at 8226 Georgia Ave.

Source of the Spring first reported the Urban Butcher update.
