Several Felony Charges Dropped against Man Linked to 2013 Aspen Hill Homicide

Fatal shooting occurred during a home-invasion robbery, prosecutors say

Prosecutors have dropped three felony charges filed against a Prince George’s County man who police say was involved in a 2013 Aspen Hill homicide.

Trevon Derick Davis, 28, of Hyattsville, was arrested in early March in connection with the shooting death of 34-year-old Alexander Benson Buie.

Davis will not face a trial on initial charges of armed robbery, first-degree assault and the use of a firearm in a violent crime, according to a District Court judge at a Friday morning hearing.

Prosecutors did not explain the reason for dropping the counts.

Davis still will be tried on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.

Two other men — Bryan Donte Byrd, 28, of Washington, D.C., and Vaughn Darvel Bellamy, 28, of Hagerstown  — also have been charged in the case.

Davis was connected to the Rockville hearing through a video feed from a county detention center, only speaking to greet Judge Karen Ferretti.

Defense attorney Terrance McGann declined to comment after the hearing.

Police believe the November 2013 killing in the 13400 block of Grenoble Drive started as a home-invasion robbery.

Byrd and Bellamy planned to target and rob another man who had previous lived in the house and was thought to be a drug dealer with large amounts of cash, according to charging documents. They enlisted Davis to help with the robbery.

The three men broke into the residence and went to the target’s bedroom, now occupied by Buie, according to charging documents.

Buie was shot multiple times during a struggle.

Bellamy had been arrested in 2014 for a separate homicide in Prince George’s County and ballistics evidence from the .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun found at the scene matched the weapon used in the Aspen Hill homicide, authorities said.
