The Montgomery Blair High School student competing in the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament finished in second place Wednesday night, though the competition setup may allow her to advance to the semifinals.
Sophia Weng, 16, of Chevy Chase, won $13,600 on the show that aired June 19.
She was defeated by Justin Bolsen of Canton, Georgia, who finished with $25,342, but is currently holding down a “wild card” spot.
The top four non-winners will move on to the semifinals as wild cards, and Weng sits at fourth on the list. Two more quarterfinal rounds will air on Thursday and Friday.
The teen tournament pits 15 kids against each other across 10 days of competition for a $100,000 prize.
The game show features three contestants providing the questions to answers across six categories over three rounds, concluding with the “Final Jeopardy” round where players wager an amount on a single answer.
