Toll lanes on southern portion of I-270 to be built first

State highway officials have announced that the section of Interstate 270 between I-370 and the Beltway will be the first to have toll lanes built as part of Gov. Larry Hogan’s proposal to widen I-270 and the Beltway. According to Erin Henson, a spokeswoman from the Maryland Department of Transportation, a portion of the toll revenue from this section will finance the toll construction on the northern portion of I-270. Delaney makes the cut for first two debates

Democratic presidential candidate John Delaney, a former congressman who represented parts of upper Montgomery County, has made the cut as one of 20 candidates to participate in the first two debates, scheduled for June 26 and 27 in Miami. Qualifying candidates had to poll at 1% in three surveys or receive 65,000 donations. [Time Magazine]

County extends period of free deck inspections

Montgomery County’s Department of Permitting Services has extended its free deck inspection period, following the collapse of two decks in Germantown within two weeks. The department began the service in 2009, and 671 decks have been inspected. [WTOP]
