Two teens and a young adult, all from Anne Arundel County, have been arrested after last Thursday morning’s brazen heist at a Rockville gun shop that left another teen dead, county police announced late Friday.
Federal agents and police in Montgomery and Howard counties also said they have linked the burglary at United Gun Shop on Randolph Road to a similar theft from a gun shop in Laurel a day earlier.
The thieves used a car stolen from Anne Arundel County to smash into the Rockville shop and then jumped into a stolen SUV for their getaway with stolen guns, according to police.
During their attempt to flee, the SUV rammed a county police cruiser and the officer shot at the vehicle, hitting 17-year-old Marquis Weems, of Anne Arundel County, police said.
Four others ran from the SUV when it stopped running about a half-mile from the store and Weems was pronounced dead, police said
Montgomery police said they arrested Brandon Allen Jackson, 17, Terrence Massey Jr., 21, and a 15-year-old whose name was not released. Massey and Jackson face burglary and firearms charges, according to online court records. No defense attorney information was listed. Jackson was charged as an adult and charges against the other juvenile were not released.
Police said 17 guns have been recovered and 10 are missing from the Rockville burglary.
Howard County Police are continuing their investigation and anticipate filing similar charges, Montgomery police announced.
Police identified the Montgomery officer who shot at the SUV as 20-year veteran John Gloss of the county’s Patrol Services Bureau. Gloss is on administrative leave while the case is reviewed, a standard procedure following police-involved shootings.
The first officers arrived at the Rockville shop four minutes after a call to 911 reported a burglary involving five people, according to police.
In the Howard County case, police discovered an undetermined number of suspects had stolen guns from Fox Firearms in Laurel, according to police. A stolen van had been driven through the store.
