District Taco Coming to Silver Spring July 1
The fast-casual Mexican restaurant District Taco will open its second Maryland location in The Blairs Shopping Center.
District Taco was launched as a food cart in 2009, and has expanded to 13 stores in the Washington region and Pennsylvania, with plans to open two more later this year in addition to the location at 1310 East West Highway.
“We are so excited to open another restaurant in the state of Maryland, close our gap regionally, and create more jobs and opportunities in the area,” co-owner Osiris Hoil said in a statement. “Some of our biggest fans from the cart days in Arlington are people who work in [Northern Virginia] or D.C., but live in Montgomery County.”
The first 100 customers at the grand opening will receive a District Taco swag bag and a free meal. The first 14 people in line will also get a District Taco gift card, commemorating the 14th location.
The restaurant’s Yucatan-style menu features tacos, burritos and quesadillas, along with an all-day selection of breakfast items such as huevos rancheros and fish tacos. Meals are between $8 and $10, plus an additional 85 cents per taco or $2.50 per entrée for extra meat or toppings.

Dog Haus debuts Karaage Kid for Chef Collaboration Series
The gourmet hot dog chain kicked off its child hunger fundraiser with the “Karaage Kid” from King’s Hawaiian’s National Corporate Executive Chef Bert S. Agor Jr.
The sandwich has Japanese karaage fried chicken atop slaw, with sweet island ginger sauce, spicy mayo and wasabi seasoning on a King’s Hawaiian bun.
Agor worked closely with the Dog Haus culinary team and Würstmacher Adam Gertler to come up with the Karaage Kid, and $1 from each purchase will go to the charity organization No Kid Hungry.
“As always, he came through with an amazing sandwich that will undoubtedly be a popular addition to our menu from coast to coast,” Dog Haus Co-Founder Quasim Riaz said in a statement. “We’re also proud to once again support No Kid Hungry and do our part to help feed underprivileged children across the nation.”
