Former Silver Spring Navy employee pleads guilty to child pornography charges
Spencer Eugene Steckman, a former Navy employee from Silver Spring, pleaded guilty Tuesday to child pornography charges in U.S. District Court and could face between 25 and 45 years in jail. Steckman admitted to enticing two 13-year-old boys to send him sexually explicit photos and videos between August and December 2017. He is also accused of enticing eight other boys to send similar photos dating back to 2008. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 7. [Montgomery Community Media]
Rockville medical network acquires two clinics
National Spine and Pain Centers, a Rockville-based medical network with clinics up and down the East coast, has acquired practices in Illinois and Georgia for an undisclosed amount. The network has 900 employees and 340 in the greater Washington area. The network raised $32 million in equity prior to the transactions. [Washington Business Journal]
Hogan asks for help from Hoyer on redistricting
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has written to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) asking the congressman to support the states efforts to create a “fair redistricting process, free of political influence.” Hoyer had previously written to Hogan and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) asking them to support national redistricting reform. The U.S. Supreme Court will decide by the end of the month whether Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District, which includes parts of upper Montgomery County, must be redrawn due to concerns over gerrymandering.
