Silver Spring man found guilty of murder in drug-related shooting

Kairee Dorsey, a Silver Spring man accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Andrew Turner, of Germantown, in December 2017, was found guilty of murder Tuesday by a Montgomery County jury. State’s Attorney John McCarthy said Dorsey had gone with another man to buy marijuana from Turner, but that Dorsey’s intent was to kill Turner and steal the drugs [WUSA].

State sees decline in opioid deaths through first quarter of 2019

Fewer Maryland residents died of heroin and fentanyl through the first three months of 2019 than during the same period last year, with 85 fewer deaths occurring according to preliminary data from state public health officials. This marks the first decline in fatal opioid overdoses in 10 years [Washington Post].

Prosecutors ask for another mental health evaluation of Montgomery mother accused of murder

After Catherine Hoggle, a Montgomery County woman accused of murdering her two children in 2014, was found incompetent to stand trial for a second time Tuesday, prosecutors requested that she undergo another mental health evaluation with a different doctor. Prosecutors had made a similar request in March after Hoggle was found incompetent the first time [WTOP].

Raskin recalls father being on Nixon’s enemies list

U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat whose district includes Montgomery County, recalled during a congressional hearing Monday that his father, Marcus Raskin, was once on former President Richard Nixon’s infamous “enemies list.” The comment occurred as the congressman was questioning John W. Dean III, who served as White House counsel during the Nixon administration [Washington Post].
