More Than Java Café opens in Bethesda
The coffee and sandwich restaurant More Than Java Café rolled out its second location last week.
More Than Java has bagels, wraps, paninis and other light fare along with coffee, tea and smoothies.
The chain started in Laurel.
The first Montgomery County location is at 10411 Motor City Drive near Westfield Montgomery mall.
More Than Java coffee ranges from $1.45 to $4, depending on the style. The café’s wraps and sandwiches run $6 to $8, while breakfast options are a few dollars less and are served all day.
The MoCo Show first reported the opening, and also reported the café will open a third location on Rugby Avenue in Bethesda later this summer.
Early summer menu, Pride Month at Sweetgreen
The fast-casual restaurant chain announced menu updates at the end of May, led by the new Blueberry Summer Salad.
The Elote Bowl has returned, a Mexican street food replica with roasted vegetables, tortilla chips and warm quinoa mixed with a spicy lime cilantro jalapeno vinaigrette. The Spring Chicken seasonal salad is also back, a combo of greens, carrots, yellow squash and spices topped with a pesto vinaigrette.
Customers can wash down their meals with a Blueberry Basil Fresca, made with fresh blueberries, basil, ginger, lemon and agave.
June is Pride Month, celebrating the LGBT community, and Sweetgreen donated $1 from each bowl sold to Covenant House on June 2. The nonprofit serves homeless youth, a quarter of whom identify as LGBTQ+.
Sweetgreen will also sell Pride t-shirts benefiting Covenant House, and employees will where the shirts throughout the month to celebrate inclusivity.
The county’s Sweetgreen opened at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda in March.
Whiskey Rocks comes to Burtonsville
The biannual whiskey celebration from the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control will be held at Burtonsville Liquor & Wine on June 14.
The event includes special allocations of a variety of items, whiskey seminars and several tasting opportunities.
The store is at 15620 Old Columbia Pike.
Seldom-supplied selections from Kentucky-based Buffalo Trace Distillery including Stagg Jr., Michter’s Barrel Strength, and Mister Sam Tribute will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Patrons can sample Taiwanese whiskey from Kavalan Distillery, along with Japanese selections Hakushu 12-Year and Yamazaki Single Malt 12-Year.
Dogfish Head, Elijah Craig and Glenmorangie Distillery will hold free seminars, registration required.
“Anyone who loves whiskey will love Whiskey Rocks,” DLC Director Robert Dorfman said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity to come out and try new products, meet other whiskey enthusiasts and purchase special bottles for yourself or for Father’s Day.”
The DLC is also partnering with Dogfish Head for a pre-celebration dinner on June 13 at Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg for $50 a person.
Summer Beer Fest at Yard House
Sticking with alcohol, the sports bar and restaurant chain will introduce 25 new beers at all of each location on June 10.
The unveiling will include several local selections, including 7 Locks’ Redland Lager, Full Tilt Brewing’s Hops The Cat IPA and Manor Hill Brewing’s Pilsner.
Yard House’s $5 Build Your Own Four-Pack promotion runs through July 8, so customers can create more than 12,000 combinations on Mondays.
The county’s lone Yard House is in the RIO Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg.
