Brown Bag Return Delayed at Least a Month

Construction work pushes back restaurant’s opening

Fast-casual restaurant Brown Bag will complete its journey back to Bethesda soon, though sandwich lovers may have to wait a bit longer for the opening.

Construction was initially expected to conclude in April, but the timetable was pushed back to May, which has now come and gone.

Co-founder Trish Fuldner said the opening will be delayed 30 to 45 more days due to slow construction.

“Trust me, we want it open more than you do,” Fuldner said.

The chain restaurant departed from its original location in 2017 after 15 years at 7272 Wisconsin Ave.

Brown Bag has since expanded to Virginia and the District, with five brick-and-mortar locations and two catering outposts, but will return to the area at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda building at Bethesda Metro Center.

Hyatt Regency Bethesda did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Brown Bag has a catering operation in Bethesda, but lost the brick-and-mortar location when its building was torn down to make way for a 290-foot office tower.

The restaurant makes all of its food from scratch in-house, using resources from local farmers and bakers to craft soups, salads and sandwiches along with seasonal and build-your-own bowls.
