Board of Education to award contracts at meeting Thursday night

The Montgomery County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on a series of contracts at its meeting Thursday for relocatable classrooms as well as renovations for Walt Whitman High School’s science and computer laboratories. Thursday’s meeting begins at 4 p.m. at the school board’s Rockville headquarters, located at 850 Hungerford Drive.

Planning Board to hold forum on Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills sector plan

The Montgomery County Planning Board will hold a public hearing at its meeting Thursday night on the Forest Glen/Montgomery Hills sector plan. The plan proposes a series of land use and zoning recommendations aimed at improving pedestrian safety and connectivity for a 230-acre stretch of Georgia Avenue between downtown Wheaton and Silver Spring. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the planning board’s Silver Spring headquarters, located at 8787 Georgia Ave.

24th annual Taste of Wheaton festival to be held Sunday

The 24th annual Taste of Wheaton festival will take place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature samples from a variety of Wheaton establishments, ranging in price from $1 to $5. There will also be live music, rides and other activities for kids. The festival is located at Parking Lot 17, 2320 Price Avenue, which is one block east of the Metro station.
