Fast-casual Italian restaurant Prima will open on Wednesday in Bethesda, offering what it calls a health-conscious approach to Italian cuisine.
The restaurant’s menu will focus on local vegetables, fresh herbs, legumes and sustainable meat and fish, Schlow Restaurant Group CEO Spiro Pappadopoulos said in an email.
The Bethesda Row restaurant will take over the former Taylor Gourmet space at 7280 Woodmont Ave.
Prima is the 12th member of the Schlow Restaurant Group, which includes five restaurants in Washington, D.C., including Alta Strada, Casolare and The Riggsby.
Chef Michael Schlow is a James Beard Foundation “Best Chef in the Northeast” award recipient. He has made appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” “Good Morning America” and “The Rachel Ray Show,” among others.
Prima is “Schlow’s take on Italian vegetable-focused, fast-casual dining,” Pappadopoulos said.
Prima bowls are $12 and customizable ones start at $10, with the final price depending on what is added, Pappadopoulos said.
The fresh ingredients are combined in bowls fitting a variety of diets, including vegetarian and keto, and all of them are gluten-free. Prima will give out free bowls for its grand opening beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday while supplies last.
