MCPS seniors miss weeks of school but still graduate, data shows
More than 1,800 Montgomery graduates tallied more than 20 unexcused absences in at least one class last year, but were still able to graduate, according to school system documents.

Bethesda pastor slams same-sex marriage announcements
Monsignor Edward J. Filardi, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bethesda, wrote an open letter in Sunday’s parish bulletin in which he stated Georgetown Visitation Prepartory School’s decision to allow announcements of same-sex unions in its magazine a “dagger to the heart.”
Filardi accused the nun who made the decision of betraying her faith and that she succumbed to lobbying from graduates who wanted the policy changed. [Washington Post]
Rockville biotech raising $7.5 million for new manufacturing facility
Rockville-based biotech company Vigene Biosciences Inc. is raising a $7.5 million Series A round to fund the completion of a new manufacturing facility. The company partners with therapeutic developers to lower teh cost of manufacturing.
The new facility is slated to open in September and be used for development, manufacturing and testing of drugs. [Washington Business Journal]
