County Man Killed after Vehicle Hits Tree

Small SUV caught fire, driver dead at scene

A Gaithersburg man was killed Sunday night after his small SUV crashed into a tree in Damascus and caught fire, police announced Monday.

Aaron Michael Girson, 21, died after his 2016 KIA Soul hit a tree on Laytonsville Road near Hawkins Creamery Road, according to county police.

A Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman tweeted that the crash occurred around 9 p.m. and fire and rescue crews responded to a call of a car on fire at 9:44 p.m. They found Girson dead at the scene.

Fire and police officers were investigating the crash as of 6 a.m. Monday, Pete Piringer, the fire department spokesman, tweeted.
