Clerk forced to the ground, painkillers taken in Sunday heist

May 21, 2019 8:55 p.m.

Two men, one wielding a handgun, robbed the Glen Echo Pharmacy Sunday morning, authorities said.

The men demanded drugs from an employee and made off with bottles of the painkiller Percocet and other narcotics, county police spokesman Capt. Tom Jordan said.

The two men fled in a silver sedan, Jordan said.

Owner Ron Sinker was not there during the robbery and said two part-time employees were working.

Sinker was told the two suspects parked on the side street bordering the pharmacy and descended the steps near the front of the building. They were wearing trench coats, hoods and masks with fur around them.

The female clerk manning the front counter thought it was a joke as the suspects entered the pharmacy, Sinker said. She was forced to the ground as the two men grabbed the drugs.

“It scares the hell out of you,” Sinker said.

There are surveillance cameras onsite and video has been turned over to police. The pharmacy was robbed two years ago during the night, but no one was there at the time, Sinker said.
