Rockville developer commissions monorail study for I-270 corridor
Robert Eisinger, a developer from the Rockville firm Promark Partners, says a recent consultant’s study found that a monorail between Shady Grove and Frederick would cost $3.4 billion, require no taking of property and cut the time between the two locations to 31 minutes. Montgomery County leaders say they are interested in the idea as an alternative to Gov. Larry Hogan’s plan to add toll lanes to Interstate 270 at a cost of more than $9 billion. [Washington Post]
Tree falls onto Potomac home, displacing family
An adult and two children were displaced from their Potomac home around midnight Monday after a tree fell into the house and into an 11-year-old boy’s room. The tree damaged two floors and the back of the house, located on the 10800 block of Larkmeade Lane, but there were no injuries according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer. Washington Post backs civilian review board proposal for Montgomery police
The Washington Post’s editorial board is supporting a proposal by Montgomery County Council member Hans Riemer to establish a police civilian review board, which would make recommendations on policy and procedure. The civilian board idea is the latest in a series of reforms the council has attempted to make to the police department, which also includes a recently-approved requirement that an outside agency conduct an independent investigation after any officer-involved shooting. Truck crash shut down Beltway’s Outer Loop over weekend
Three tractor trailers jackknifed early Sunday morning on the Capital Beltway near the interchange with Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, blocking all lanes of the Outer Loop. The accident led to a fuel spill from one of the trucks, and all three trucks’ tanks were damaged, according to Montgomery Fire and Rescue officials. There were no serious injuries. [WTOP]
