Two people escaped with somewhat minor injuries after their car tumbled into the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal on Thursday morning, authorities said.
County emergency services personnel and the Swift Water Rescue team responded around 7 a.m. near the Old Angler’s Inn and Great Falls Tavern for the report of an overturned vehicle, fire department spokesman Pete Piringer reported.
The adult patients were transported to a local hospital, Piringer said. One victim required emergency attention but the injuries were not immediately life-threatening.
The car entered the canal just off the C&O Towpath, a trail that runs alongside the river.
The U.S. Park Police are investigating.
