Chevy Chase Town Council Vice Mayor Cecily Baskir and Treasurer Joel Rubin were re-elected in Tuesday’s town election.
The two members of Chevy Chase’s five-member council had no opponents.
Baskir received 171 votes and Rubin got 166 votes, according to the unofficial results.
Council members for the town of 2,800 serve voluntarily for two-year terms and meet once a month.
Elections are staggered so that two council members are up for re-election during odd-numbered years and three during even numbered years.
Baskir was first appointed to the council in 2017 to finish the remainder of a previous council member’s term, and was re-elected in May of that year. She has a Bethesda law practice and also teaches law at Catholic University in the District of Columbia.
Rubin was elected to his second term on the council Tuesday. He served as the deputy assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs during President Barack Obama’s administration.
Rubin ran unsuccessfully in the District 8 Congressional Democratic primary in 2016 and also lost in last year’s Democratic primary in a state delegate race.
The council will meet next on May 22 to determine whether council members’ responsibilities will rotate.
