Rockville City Council scheduled to adopt budget Monday
The Rockville City Council is scheduled to adopt its $138.9 million operating budget for fiscal 2020 at its meeting Monday night. The budget represents a $2.7 million increase from the previous year and includes no tax increases. Also on the agenda is the city’s $77.4 million capital improvements budget, which represents a $9.7 million increase from last year’s capital budget. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Rockville City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.
County Council to conduct interviews for three cabinet positions
The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to conduct interviews with job candidates for three positions in County Executive Marc Elrich’s administration. The candidates are Barry Hudson, who is applying for the director position in the Public Information Office, Vennard Wright, who is applying for the job of director of the Department of Technology Services and Steve Sluchansky, who is applying for the job of Chief Labor Relations Officer. Elrich must fill 12 top positions in the county, including police chief and inspector general. The interviews are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in the council’s Rockville chambers, at 100 Maryland Ave.
County Council set to take action on pay equity, police reform legislation at meeting Tuesday
The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to act on several key pieces of legislation at its meeting Tuesday, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Among the bills up for a vote are one that prohibits using past salary history as a factor when evaluating job candidates. Council member Evan Glass sponsored the bill in order to help close the gender pay gap in the county. The council is also scheduled to vote on a bill sponsored by Council member Will Jawando that would require an independent investigation to be performed by an agency outside of the county any time there is an officer-involved police shooting. The meeting will take place in the council’s Rockville chambers, 100 Maryland Ave.
Washington Writer’s Conference to take place Friday and Saturday
The Washington Independent Review of Books is hosting the seventh annual Washington Writer’s Conference Friday and Saturday at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road in North Bethesda. The conference brings together authors, agents and others in the publishing world from Washington, New York and Boston. The conference includes six-minute pitch sessions and panel discussions among other activities. Admission is $289. Activities begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.
