County Council to hold public hearing on health benefit trust fund
The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed savings plan from County Executive Marc Elrich that cuts nearly $90 million from the fiscal 2019 budgeted amount for Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB), which is the county’s health benefits trust fund for county government retirees. Elrich has said the goal of cutting the funding is to achieve a 10% reserve level by next year in order to maintain the county’s AAA bond rating with credit rating agencies in New York. Several council members have spoken out against Elrich’s decision. Tuesday’s hearing will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the council’s Rockville chambers, 100 Maryland Ave.
